8 Things I Love About Ramadhan

Alhamdulillah, we have been blessed and fortunate enough to welcome the month of Ramadhan once more. Alhamdulillah, there are so many things we can do to cleanse our hearts and purify our minds. May we preserve the good habits in the months after, inshaAllah.

Now there are many things that make Ramadhan a special, holy and blessed month.
Here are the 8 things i especially love about this beautiful month:

1. Saum
It is the month of fasting. And this does not just apply to food and drink, but it is about abstaining from that which is bad for us. Backbiting, mindless talk, listening to and talking about that which do not concern us. It is a means to cleanse our souls, and it makes us calmer and at peace.

2. Sahur and Iftar
We wake up early to eat with our family. Everyone is drowsy and sleepy, but we sit down and have a meal together in the wee hours of the morning, and we sit down at dusk and have another meal together again. We rush home to have iftar with our family, knowing deep in our hearts that what matters after a long day at work is having a meal with our family, in the comforts of our home.

3. Eating less
What i like is the way we remind ourselves not to eat too much during sahur because it is too early to have a feast. And we dont eat a lot during iftar because we dont want to get too bloated for tarawih. So that means we will eat less right? Weight loss, anyone?

4. Tarawih
I have always found ourselves privileged to have been blessed with our 5 daily prayers. Allah has bequeathed us with these prayers so we can constantly remember Him, speak to Him and connect with Him. And to have the tarawih upon us in this month, reciting every Ayah in his Quran in each rakaah? MashaAllah. That is such a great blessing.

5. Amal
The rewards of our good deeds are multiplied in the month of Ramadhan. Rasulullah s.a.w said that "Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like that of the fasting person, without any reduction in his reward.” MashaAllah, this is such a beautiful reward for us all!

6. Sales!
Oh come on, we all love this. And everything is in such awesome prices, from food to clothes. And dont even talk about the action in bazaar geylang on the eve of Eid. The prices are insanely awesome!

7. More hijab on the streets
I find it very enlightening to see some people out in the streets, donning the hijab as a form of experiment or even a commitment in the month of Ramadhan. Beautiful sight, isn't it?

8. Qiyam and laylatul qadr
Quite like tarawih, this is such a beautiful blessing. Yes, we can do qiyam in  other months as well, but this is a blessed and holy month, and our amal ibadah is further heightened in this month. And to be alive and to pray in what could be the night that is a better than a thousand months? SubhanAllah, we are blessed with this night, mere mortals than we are.

And above all, this beautiful month is one of the surest signs of Allah's boundless love and mercy for us.

SubhanAllah. May we preserve istiqamah and i hope that you all have a good Ramadhan ahead! Ramadhan Kareem everyone!
